“Blood Moon”

“Blood Moon”

In night’s brittle stillness,

beneath snow’s white comfort,

furtive movement of betrayal.

Startling explosions of freezing sap—

suspend, quicken heartbeats—

silence darts from seed to seed.

Above—whispering wings carry

Beak, claw,

Rending death.
